Character age: 17
Why do you think they can settle in a horror setting if they’re under 18?: First of all - Mion herself is from a psychological horror series with slice of life elements. On top of that, Mion is the head of the Sonozaki family, which is basically the family that runs the entirety of the village - Hinamizawa. And they're basically yakuza, really.
Canon Abilities/Powers:
While Mion herself is a normal human being with absolutely no supernatural abilities whatsoever, there are several things to note:
Mion is skilled in combat; she's really good at using a gun and martial arts.
She's also good at coming up with strategies, too.
She's good at cheating in games.
She's good at pretending she's her sister.
What is their greatest negative emotion towards an object, situation, or person in their past?: One of Mion's biggest regrets is the fact that she basically 'stole' the identity of "Mion Sonozaki" from her actual older sister. Even though it might have been an accident from something that happened when they were children, the both of them were treated especially different from the start - the one deemed as the 'older sister' was always seen better than the younger one, given that the younger twin was always deemed to be discarded; essentially tossed aside.
How strongly do they feel about the negative subject matter, on the scale of one to ten?: About a strong seven. While she does feel bad - even guilty, a little to the point where she'll never forget it, that doesn't mean that she lingers on it. Instead, she uses that regret to push herself forward by trying her best as 'Mion Sonozaki'.
What is their greatest virtue?: Her determination. Mion is the type of person that just doesn't easily give up or surrender and that shows in her character in many ways - one of them being how the games club works (that everyone must try their best to win at all costs) and how she never gives up on her friends, no matter what. Even to the point where she almost risks her life in front of her mother to protect them, even if it means getting a little stabbed.
How aware are they of their virtue, on a scale from one to ten?: Ten. She's rather proud of this trait and flaunts it in any way that she can when she has the chance to.
Items:
A deck of battered cards
Her airsoft gun (with its holster)

REVISIONS.
As I stated in the application before, Mion Sonozaki is the future Sonozaki family head. This means that she actually deals with a lot of the darkness with Hinamizawa; for example, she is very much aware of the murders and disappearances that happen in the village that have happened every year. While she might not be the cause of them, Mion herself is rather strong-hearted and isn't the type to give in, no matter what happens. Instead of faltering, Mion is more prone to stand back up and fight against anything that is potentially thrown back at her, whether it be physical or mental trauma.
And if/when she does, she's willing to go to other people for help and try and build a support group for herself. She doesn't plan on isolating herself, as that would be rather detrimental to her own health.
She's also assisted in a lot of other people's traumas as well, creating a games club to help keep others together; something that I am thinking about having an Upcycle branch of in order to help everyone band up together and have a proper support group so that they don't falter, not to mention that she's willing to actually talk things out with others to build each other up.
▸ Expansion on negative emotions and her virtues. We'd like a little more explanation on her thought process! And too, we're also aware that Mion and Shion do tend to switch places throughout the canon, so we'd like a further explanation as to how that affects her story and how it effects her as a character.
Negative emotions: Mion actually tends to not show many negative emotions in public, or in front of the people that she likes. She tends to radiate a rather positive attitude, in spite of her guilt. A lot of this is due to how she was not born as Mion, but as 'Shion' - the unwanted one; the one that was supposed to have been discarded. But a lot of the guilt stems from her thinking that she was being selfish for wanting sashimi bream and tearing the relationship she had with her sister apart. While she wished for both her sister and others to see both 'Mion' and 'Shion' as equals, that ideal was just simply impossible, so a lot of it tends to get buried beneath the surface. It's something that doesn't really get addressed by others as she doesn't really have anyone to talk with this about.
While Shion is someone that is aware of the initial swap, that doesn't mean that they exactly see eye to eye, as shown in Meakashi-hen, where Shion says that "Mion seems more dependent", meaning that she is very much more emotional than most, which can be seen as both a flaw and a strength; something that I'll expand on when speaking about her virtues.
But as stated before, she doesn't try to linger on her mistakes and regrets. Instead, she tries to use them as a stepping stone to push herself forward and is even rather aware of what to do when things do go wrong. She knows that she can actually reach out and ask for help and not just keep things to herself.
Positive emotions: Again, Mion is rather kindhearted. A lot of this is very likely due to the swap - she was born as unwanted and bullied, so when she swapped and became 'Mion', she decided that if she had to carry these sins on her back, she would use them to help others and play the best 'Sonozaki Mion' that she possibly could. When she saw that Satoshi and Satoko were having problems at home, she did the only thing that she could do within her power - as even though she was the future Sonozaki head, she was still afraid of the strength of Oryou (the current head) and could only simply protect the duo by giving them a space at school in the form of a club so those two could be allowed somewhere safe. Another show of her kindness is when, in Onikakushi, she tries not to tell Keiichi the horrors of Hinamizawa - she does this to protect him from the ugliness from the world, especially given that she doesn't want to put off someone she wanted to have as a friend and someone who had just moved to the village.
But even while she might have been afraid, she does show bravery in wanting to help others and not abandon any close friends - something that shows in Miotsukushi when she basically stands up to her own mother that disagreed on saving Satoko to the point where her hands bled. This, too, is how she shows kindness for her friends.
Other: In terms of how the swap affected her growth and character is that, given that she was born as the unwanted child and then became what you could be considered the 'golden child' by permanently becoming 'Mion' was that while the guilt did eat at her to the point where she felt pretty much obligated to play the role completely, it also gave her insight on seeing things from both sides.
As someone who always considered herself and her sister as equals, an ideal that was different from the rest of the world who always only saw "Mion as the better twin" and "Shion as the worse twin", she was able to have a different insight on the matter than most. She is able to understand people who go through grief, bullying and isolation. And she is able to use her position as the heir as a strength to bring people together as well. However, she doesn't need any titles to help her out, it is just simply an added asset that can assist when necessary.
Also, as an additional note: besides the major swap when they were children, Mion doesn't really swap at all with Shion in the arc that I am pulling from and isn't really relevant; while she could hypothetically do it if Shion is around, it isn't something that she normally does unless given a proper reason to - it's usually played up as either her wanting to show a 'girlier' side to herself, as "Mion" tends to be associated with tomboyish stuff; because she's asked to by Shion; or because there's some sort of merit (whether it's beneficial, or because she's concerned) to being "Shion" over "Mion", although this last example isn't one that is seen much, if at all, outside of Tsukiotoshi-hen.
